Did the APEC Summit succeed in addressing the most important economic and business issues? How important to Singapore and the region was it to have the APEC Summit held here?

By Joshua Yim, CEO ACHIEVE Group

The recent APEC Summit set the framework for how the world economic system should be after the crisis. The doctrine of protectionism was addressed and an understanding was forged as to how the various countries in the world should not fall into the trap of protectionism, which may be tempting given the precarious economic situation. This is a good start, setting the stage for the next phase of growth.

Being able to host the Summit has been a wonderful opportunity to position Singapore as a hub. It has been said that future world growth will come from the Asia Pacific and Singapore being situated in the Asia Pacific, will be the springboard for economic growth in the region.
